Bo – Kaap
- From your hotel continue to the colorful community of the Bo-Kaap. Many devout Muslims, Cape Malays, live in this area. The phrase Cape Malays describes many racial elements.
- The forebears of this community came from Java, Bali, India, and China – the East, Malaysia But wherever their home was, whatever the cultural differences were, this complex and diverse community is strongly bound by a common bond: Islam.
Distric Six
- District Six, was an impoverished but lively community of 55 000, predominantly coloured people. It was once known as the soul of Cape Town, this inner-city area harboured a rich cultural life in its narrow alleys and crowded tenements. Before being torn apart by the apartheid regime during the sixties and seventies.
Gugulethu – Mzoli’s
- Stop at Mzoli’s for lunch, it is a popular day and nightspot, but it is also a place to hang out in the township on the outskirts of Cape Town. Celebs hang out here as do out-of-towners and international visitors, who wouldn’t miss a chance to visit the place when in Cape Town.
- The famous meat house sells meat, which you can then braai on no fewer than eight fires. Alongside the meat, house is an open-air restaurant where there is usually a live band.
Langa Township
- Langa means “the sun” in Xhosa. Langa has produced some celebrities such as the late Brenda Fassie, the international acclaimed Marimba Group, Amampondo, as well as a national soccer player, cricket player, and boxer.
- Guga Sthebe Arts and Culture Centre aims for change. It’s dedicated to the empowerment of the people of Langa and improving their socio-economical situation. One of the focuses is unemployment.
- Explore the local arts and crafts on display in the various studios, metal and pottery workshops. Embark on a walking tour with a local registered guide providing the opportunity to be exposed to the community and lifestyle of Langa. Tour ends with drop off at your hotel.

Airplane
Copper wire, wood base. I created this piece in late 2008. For this work, I aimed to convey both the industrial heaviness of an airplane, but also the cloudlike floating quality you feel when you’re in one.
